A look at Wednesday’s weather from Environment Canada.

At the weather station in Edmonton Blatchford it is 21 degrees Celsius and the wind is blowing at 9 km/h from the south-southwest.

I really hope you all stay indoors and in cooled areas as much as possible, because this heat wave doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

The extreme heat warning remains in effect for Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park, Environment Canada said, as Wednesday’s high rises to 37 C, with a chance of thunderstorms in the late afternoon and a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight. Thursday will be much the same, with a high of 31 C. The extreme temperatures are expected to continue through much of next week.

Be sure to follow the precautions recommended by Environment Canada:

  • Watch for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweating, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.
  • Consider moving outdoor activities to cooler times of the day.
  • Take regular breaks to escape the heat and spend time in cooled indoor areas if possible.
  • Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.
  • Check for children or pets before exiting your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet in a locked vehicle for any length of time.

During a heat wave like this, take good care of yourself and those who are especially vulnerable to heatstroke or heat exhaustion, such as babies, children, the elderly, people with existing conditions and people who work outdoors.
